When I started photography, both with an SLR as a teenager and with a Kiev RF a few years back, my standard lens was a 50. Almost in parallel it slowly became 35 and now a 28mm sits on both my R2a and FM3a most of the time. With the right technique (i.e. getting in close enough) it's a very powerful focal length for street photography.

Ever since I lost my CV 28mm metal VF at the San Diego Zoo last year I've been using the outer edges of my R2 and R2a VF, too. Works fine thus far, even with me wearing glasses.
