I saw the message you received. It was rude, obnoxious, and contradicted the very rules Mr Gandy drew your attention to. It has to be realised now that RFF is no longer simply a forum for photography enthusiasts to discuss rangefinder photography, but a shop window for Mr Gandy's business interests. Naturally, it is up to him how he runs his business, but it is as well to be aware of this. I should personally now be very cautious about endorsements for this or that camera or lens appearing on RFF, since I'd be unsure about the editorial independence of any review or article which appeared in the pages of RFF. That is a commercial website. UCVC is, by contrast, a non-commercial website operated by a CV enthusiast for CV enthusiasts.

Yeah, that one caught me off guard. The tone was sarcastic to an extreme and almost sounded like something one of my students might say (well, with worse grammar considering they're learning English ).

That's my point. All I thought I was doing was expanding the "CV sphere". I don't sell any of the stuff so I have nothing to gain by lying or being deceitful. He has yet to explain to me how this site is "commercial" or competes with the mailing list or RFF.

Brian, I can't understand Stephen's objection to your post, and I was grateful for the note that the site's back up. Seems less like passing out menus for another restaurant in a restaurant -- maybe more like passing out pamphlets for a Chinese New Year celebration. But there do seem to be more reminders on his spaces these days that they aren't public spaces, and it makes them less comfortable to visit.

I figured that as soon as I saw his reply with "so long". The guy isn't just losing list and forum members, he's losing customers.
