25/4P Color Skopar 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
On the way to Nara to see a rather famous friend's flower exhibition, my wife and I stopped in Osaka. While she buying our friend a gift, I popped into the nearby camera store and bought the new Voigtlander 25/4P. Bad little boy that I am!

The very nice thing about the 25/4P is that it is RF coupled and it turns up the 24/35 frames on the M8. It is perfect for the M8. It does not intrude into the frames and it is very neatly balanced on the camera. At first focusing was quite stiff. But by the time our train reached Nara it was smooth.

The nice thing about the M8 is that you can see how good your lens is immediately. And the 25/4P was certainly very good in terms of resolution, contrast and flare control. It seems well built, though time will tell.

I have the old 25/4 non-RF coupled version and two (yes two) 25/4s in SC mount.

Now if only Mr. K. would make a Bessa R4 is Nikon S mount. That would be fun.

But I digress.

To continue, there is no good reason not to get the 25/4P if you have an R4A or an M8, or if you just want a small and not expensive 25mm lens. While the 25/4 does not come with a 25mm finder, they are available from Camerquest and other outlets.

On the M8 is equal to about 31mm in 35mm.

The classic (non-RF counpled) 25 and the new 25 pancake are the same optical design, so flare control, contrast, resolution, etc... will be exactly the same. I've got one (a classic) permanently "married" to an L. Great combo...i wrote something up on it here.

I've ordered an M8 and am looking at this lens for a compact walkaround outfit. I read Sean Reid's review where he mentions that the lower corners are less sharp than the center and upper corners. Have you seen anything like this on your lens?

Thanks,
Nick

I haven't, but my printing from 35mm doesn't get past 8x10 so maybe it doesn't make a difference at that size?
