Using the 85mm f1.9 Jupiter-9 on the Bessa-R? 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Hey All,

I have a new lens from Fedka, for my Bessa-R's, it is the Russian 85mm f1.9 Jupiter-9. It is set-up, and overhauled completely. It is a single-coated Black LTM high-speed Russian copy of the legendary 85mm Zeiss Biogon, for the Contax line of rangefinder cameras of the forties.

I bought it cheaply, and had it cheaply overhauled by Fedka. I like my 75 Heliar, but I wanted something slightly longer, but not too long and -big- and FAST, to compliment my Canon 50mm f1.2 8) . I considered the Leitz 90mm Summicron for the Bessa-T, but many have reported that it is too unweildly. Been there and done that. The Zeiss Biogon, and Jupiter-9, have absoletely outstanding legendary Sonnar-type bokeh. My guess is that it is a combination of the the aperture blades (shape and number) and the Sonnar formula that makes it such a hit in the photo community.

Looking forward to giving it a go. BTW the rangefinder base in the Bessa-R has been reported, over and over, as being okey-dokey for such a critical-focusing optic as this one. 8)

Be sure to post some examples of your results!

I have a cheep & cheerful J8 that, while soft-ish, renders great tones.
