[article comments]Shantou ERA100 Review 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Back to Article
It is too bad if they discontinue ERA 100. I picked up a 10 pack of the film in Oct 2005 while in Bejing. At 50cents/36 exp. I did not think I could go wrong and it is really a very nice film. I used a D76 type developer with it and got results similar to FP4. i did not find any excessive "scratching " problem, but I never squeege film, just a quick final rinse in Fhotoflo and hang up overnight to dry. It is a much better film and easier to get along with than the Lucky 100. The 400 is not bad, but the 100 is a miserable film to get good negs from.
There is less and less black/white films available and we will soon see shortages of our favourite emulsions. Time to stock up and throw out the edibles and fill the freezer with film!
Brian, thanks for the heads up on ERA and I for one would like to find out if this rumour is true. Maybe a bulk buy of ERA would be possible for Rf members in US/Canada?
Tom A

Didn't b. mattock try and arrange one some time ago? For me, I email a guy in S. Taiwan who messengers it to me overnight. I've never bought in bulk from him, but I do know that he sells 4x5 sheets in bulk (by the carton...40 boxes per carton, 25 sheets per box). I'm sure with enough leeway he can do the same with 35mm. Do you want me to contact him about it?

Greetings! I've just finished processing my first test roll of ERA 100, and clipped the roll into three lengths to try development times in Ilford DD-X 1+4. I tried 8, 10 and 12 minutes development. I found I got the best results with 1 stop overexposure and 12 minutes development.

Like Tom I didn't find any particular problems with scratches or dust, but I rinse the film only in distlled water and hang to dry overnight without any squeegee or fingers.

Here's the best result from the test roll.

I got mine from ebay seller isaac.chen, and paid AUD$2.70 a roll for 10, delivered, which is less than half the local cost of Ilford. I'll certainly stock up with some more.

RFF doesn't allow leeching so we can't see your photo. Use the "attachments" function under "Additional Options".

Yeah, I buy mine from issac, too. He lives just south of me in Tainan, Taiwan so I always get it the next day. He's very reliable.
