I'm jealous

If I could afford one, I'd get it in a heartbeat...but on the way to saving up for one I'd probably buy the R3M I'm lusting after first

I can't tell you how many times I thought about getting this lens but wished it came in silver to match my bodies. I almost ordered a black one a few months back and I'm now glad that I didn't take the plunge. I was saving up for 50 Summilux but that was put on hold once I saw the silver 35 Nokton. My Summilux fund is back down to $0 now.

I'll be matching the 35 Nokton with my Bessa-T and 35mm metal brightline. I feel that is going to be one killer combination. Now I'm not sure what to do with my 35 Ultron. I really like it but I always felt it was a bit big. I'm thinking of replacing it with a 35 Skopar and reserve the Nokton for when I need the speed.

Well the BEAST (aka 35 Nokton) is finally in my hands. I got back from Portugal on last Thursday night. I contacted Stephen Gandy on Friday morning and he shipped it out to me immediately. It got here this morning.

I sent an email with my thoughts to a friend in Australia who is waiting on a black version of the BEAST so I'd thought that I'd might as well copy and paste them to the forum too.

What a nice piece of glass this is. Certainly the best made CV lens I've ever handled. The first thing I did was mount it on my MP. It seems to ok. It is huge but surprisingly its not as heavy as I thought it would be. I think that my collapsible 90/f4 Elmar might be just slightly heavier. It feels nice on the MP but the lens does take up quite a bit of the vf.

I then took out my much loved but neglected Bessa-T and mounted the Nokton on it and fitted the metal CV 35 Brightline VF on top. WHAT A REVELATION! This is a match made in heaven. I always complained about the position of the strap lugs on the T that caused the camera to hang awkwardly with the lens pointing upwards. I heard that this was a design fault but I would challenge that notion. I now see that the Bessa-T and 35 Nokton were made for each other. With the strap lugs positioned the way they are, the Nokton hangs absolutely perfectly and it is such a well balanced camera now. I find that this combo feels much better balanced than the Nokton mounted on my MP. Also, there is no interference in the RF or VF. Looking through the VF, you can see the lens. At the closest end of the focusing range (0.7m, I believe) the very top part of the standard hood perfectly meets the bottom frameline (and I mean perfectly). If I were to use the lens on an M, I'd invest in the optional vented hood. The BEAST is going to give my Bessa-T a new lease on life. I'm actually thinking of purchasing another Bessa-T body as a backup in case something goes wrong with the one I have.

I'm preparing myself to be even more astounded when I see the photos that this lens produces.

Igor,
Obviously, I don't have any photos of my own to show you yet and I'm backed up with processing some 20 or so rolls from my trip. However, if you search Flickr for "35 Nokton" you will find lots of samples. There are also many good samples on the RFF galleries - again just enter "35 Nokton" into the search engine.
